WASH AND PAINT BOOTH DESIGN INCREASES PRODUCTION CAPACITY FOR TRANE TECHNOLOGIES

LACROSSE, WI

ABOUT TRANE TECHNOLOGIES

Trane Technologies is a global climate innovator committed to creating efficient, sustainable, and reliable HVAC solutions. With a strong focus on innovation and operational excellence, Trane continuously invests in advanced manufacturing technologies to support new product development and meet evolving market demands across its global facilities.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of this project was to support production expansion while maintaining a limited booth footprint. Trane Technologies sought to minimize material handling bottlenecks, increase throughput, and optimize workflow efficiency without increasing floor space. The solution needed to support a new product line while delivering consistent, high-quality finishing results.

BACKGROUND

At its La Crosse, Wisconsin facility, Trane Technologies was preparing to launch a brand-new product line under a tight production start-up timeline. Space constraints within the facility required a creative approach to finishing operations. Traditional methods involving separate wash and paint booths were not feasible, prompting the need for a more integrated and space-efficient solution.

CHALLENGE

Trane Technologies faced a twofold challenge: meeting aggressive production deadlines while operating within limited floor space. A conventional finishing setup would have required multiple booths and additional material handling steps, increasing complexity and slowing throughput. To stay on schedule, Trane needed a solution capable of performing both wash and paint processes within a single booth footprint—without compromising quality or consistency.

SOLUTION

BlastOne designed and installed a custom Wash & Paint Combination Booth that allowed both processes to occur in one integrated system. This project included:

  • Custom 24′ × 18′ × 45′ Wash & Paint Combination Booth
  • Dedicated exhaust system with Dual Plenums for proper airflow management to separate between paint and pressure washing modes
  • Sliding, lockable doors to protect the paint exhaust during the wash cycle
  • 2x Wall Mounted Wall-Man Personnel Lifts for effective access to the work parts
  • Pass-through configuration with fast roll-up product entry doors both ends
  • UTMI touchscreen control panel for streamlined operation
  • 9′ x 9′ x 9′ Paint Mix Room with overhead gantry crane for 55 gallon drums containing paint materials to be safely handled

This innovative design eliminated unnecessary handling steps while maintaining efficient workflow and booth size.

RESULTS

The integrated Wash & Paint Combination Booth enabled Trane Technologies to launch its new product line on schedule while maximizing available floor space. The solution significantly increased throughput by streamlining the finishing process, reduced material handling challenges, and improved overall facility efficiency. Additionally, Trane expanded production capacity without increasing the booth footprint, achieved improved coating consistency across oversized vessels, and established a scalable foundation for future growth.
