MontiPower Tercoo Heavy Rust and Coating Removal Kits
MontiPower Tercoo Pre-Blaster Kits are portable pre-blasting tools designed to remove heavy rust, layered corrosion, and thick coating buildup from steel surfaces before final surface preparation. Available in 110V electric and 18V cordless configurations, each kit includes the first Tercoo wheel and a carry case.
- Designed for pre-cleaning heavily corroded or coated steel surfaces
- Removes heavy rust, scale, and thick failed coating buildup
- Uses a larger protective shroud to accommodate the Tercoo wheel
- Configured without the accelerator bar used on a standard Bristle Blaster
- Available in 110V electric and 18V cordless models
- Intended for use before final cleaning and profiling with a standard Bristle Blaster
- Models: SKU HTROTBTE, MPN SE-1501-02; SKU HTROTBTB, MPN SB-715
MontiPower Tercoo Heavy Rust and Coating Removal Kits
SKU: P-HTTERCOODescription
The Tercoo Package provides a dedicated tool setup for pre-blasting in coating removal work. It is designed for the first stage of surface preparation where thick coatings, heavy rust, or rubbery coatings need to be removed before final cleaning and profiling. In these applications, this saves both time and cost compared with using the standard Bristle Blaster exclusively.
Available as a 110V electric or cordless model, main drive unit is the same tool used for the Bristle Blaster, but it is configured specifically for Tercoo use. The main differences are the larger shroud, which accommodates the larger diameter Tercoo wheels, and the removal of the accelerator bar.
Although the same tool can be refitted for both Bristle Blasting and Tercoo use, having a dedicated Tercoo setup saves changeover time and helps ensure the tool is configured correctly from the start. It also reduces the chance of losing the fasteners that must otherwise be removed each time the tool configuration is changed.
The included Tercoo Pre-Blaster Disc uses tungsten carbide wheel tips, providing strong performance in heavy coating and corrosion removal applications where relying only on standard Bristle Blaster wheels would increase operating time and wheel cost.
Setup and Operation
For proper operation, the Tercoo wheel must be installed according to the arrow marked on the wheel, with the tips pointing clockwise. Operators should avoid pushing hard into the surface. The tool is intended to work with light handling pressure, allowing the weight of the tool to do most of the work.
Excessive pressure creates unnecessary heat and can shorten wheel life. Best practice is to leave some surface residue behind rather than trying to produce a white metal finish with the Tercoo disc alone. Standard Bristle Blaster wheel treatment can then follow for final cleaning and surface profile where required.

Tercoo Disc Specifications
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Drive Unit Compatibility | Bristle Blaster Ultimate Electric, Bristle Blaster Ultimate Cordless, and Bristle Blaster Ultimate Pneumatic Double |
| Disc Construction | Flexible SBR disc with tungsten carbide pins positioned at a specific angle for controlled pendulum impact |
| Maximum Coating Removal Thickness | Up to 200 mils (5 mm) |
| Disc Service Life | Approximately 300 to 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) per disc pack on Rust Grade B corrosion |
| Compatible Substrates | Steel, concrete, bitumen, and rubber |
| Heat Generation | No heat generation, using hammering action only. This helps prevent thick coatings from becoming gummy, which can occur with other processes. |
| Changeover Time | Approximately 30 seconds from the Tercoo disc to the Bristle Blaster belt |
When to use Tercoo before a Bristle Blaster
| Surface Condition | ISO 8501-1 Grade | Recommended Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Mill scale with no visible rust | Grade A | Use the Bristle Blaster directly. A Tercoo pass is not normally required. |
| Mill scale lifting with rust beginning to form | Grade B | Use the Bristle Blaster directly. A Tercoo pass is not normally required. |
| Mill scale gone, uniform rust, and light pitting | Grade C, Light | The Bristle Blaster is typically sufficient. Use Tercoo first where localized deposits or scale remain. |
| Rust with laminar deposits or scale buildup | Grade C, Heavy, or Grade D | Use Tercoo as Step 1 to remove bulk corrosion before finishing with the Bristle Blaster. |
| Heavy pitting with thick, layered corrosion throughout | Grade D | Use the two-step method, Tercoo first, followed by the Bristle Blaster to achieve the specified surface preparation standard. |
| Failed coating over corroded steel | Grade C or D Beneath Coating | Use Tercoo to remove the failed coating and corrosion mass, then use the Bristle Blaster for final cleanliness and profile. |
Practical Field Selection Guidance
Use Tercoo first when a Bristle Blaster alone would take a long time to remove the rust or contaminants. The Tercoo disc should be used when heavy corrosion, scale, and/or failed coating needs to be removed.
The Tercoo disc does not independently establish a verified SSPC-SP10, SSPC-SP5, Sa 3, or specified anchor profile result. After the Tercoo pass, use the Bristle Blaster belt to complete the final surface preparation step to achieve the desired profile.
Visual cleanliness comparisons, replica tape profile measurements, and soluble salt readings should be documented after the Bristle Blaster pass.
Note: Not recommended for tight spaces, corners, or surfaces where the wheel must be squeezed to fit into it. Squishing the flexible discs together during use can damage the tips. A standard Bristle Blaster wheel is better suited for these applications.
